If you are one of the many Women who are looking for a safer, more natural solution in addressing skin issues, then you probably have heard of Witch Hazel. It’s reputed to be a solution to many skin problems. It is. But only on a short term basis. It acts like an astringent, removes oil and minimizes pores. The bad news is that it is a temporary fix. Witch Hazel contains Tannins, which are known skin sensitizers. UsingTannins on the skin will not end well for the health of your skin. Tannins irritate the skin and long term use can cause free radical damage to the skin lipid. Combine this with the fact that most Witch Hazels also contain alcohol and your skin is in a heap of trouble. Research shows that only a small amount of alcohol is needed to dry out and cause damage to your skin. Some companies now promote Witch Hazel without alcohol, but it doesn’t change the fact that Tannins are a problem for long term use. Another problem with Witch Hazel is that it naturally contains a volatile oil which is a source of eugenol. Eugenol, as we know, is a sensitizer that should absolutely be avoided in your skincare products. We remind our customers that to achieve and maintain healthy skin, the first step is to remove all skin disruptors from your skincare. While Witch Hazel has some benefits because it's plant-derived, it doesn't change the fact that it will eventually dry out or sensitize your skin. We don't recommend using Witch Hazel as part of your skincare routine.
Save the Witch Hazel for bug bites and hemorrhoids.
